Setup Bluetooth connection on your PC
Attention: We recommend following the Naming eBeam - PDF instructions and affixing a physical label with the same name you specify to the eBeam pod before proceeding.
- Download eBeam software:
- If Capture package:
eBeam Capture 2.3 for Microsoft Windows (2000/XP/2003/Vista)
- If Projection package:
eBeam Interact 2.3 for Microsoft Windows (2000/XP/2003/Vista)
ritePen 2.7.05
- If Complete package:
eBeam Capture 2.3 for Microsoft Windows (2000/XP/2003/Vista)
eBeam Interact 2.3 for Microsoft Windows (2000/XP/2003/Vista)
ritePen 2.7.05
- Unzip the software, open the exe file and start the install process.
- When complete you should see new icons on your desktop for Capture and/or Projection.
- Take the included USB cable and plug it into your eBeam and plug the other end into the included power adapter.
- Plug the power adapter into an outlet, the eBeam pod should glow blue.
- Position the eBeam at the top left or right corner of your whiteboard with one of the included mounting brackets.
(be sure it is at a 90 degree angle in relation to the writing surface)
- If your eBeam package is Projection or Complete connect your computer to a projector and position the viewing area so the mounted eBeam is 1-3 inches off the top left or right corner.
- On your PC, determine whether you have internal bluetooth or require the ioGear Bluetooth dongle (included with eBeam).
- To determine whether your computer has bluetooth already setup do the following:
- Find 'My Computer' or 'Computer' and right-click on the icon. Select 'Manage'.
- Select 'Device Manager' in the left side-bar.
- In the right pane look for a Bluetooth logo followed by 'Bluetooth Radio', 'Bluetooth', etc.
- Expand to be sure drivers are installed underneath.
- If found you probably have Bluetooth built-in to your computer, if not you need to use the ioGear Bluetooth dongle included with the eBeam.
a. If your PC has internal Bluetooth skip to step 6.
b. If you need to use the ioGear Bluetooth Dongle follow these steps:
- Insert the dongle in a usb port.
- Windows XP SP2 should recognize the dongle and attempt automatic installation. Vista requires a driver download from iogear.com. Download the Vista driver here.
Note: eBeam works best with the generic Windows bluetooth drivers. If you encounter connection issues first verify the drivers being used. Reference the eBeam Support Issues PDF for more troubleshooting help.
- Double-click on the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar or find Bluetooth Devices in the Control Panel or go to start -> run -> type: 'bthprops.cpl'. This will open the 'Bluetooth Devices' window.
Note: If none of these options are available the bluetooth driver is not installed properly or your system is using 'My Bluetooth Places'. Please reference the eBeam Support Issues PDF section regarding bluetooth drivers for help. eBeam can be configured through My Bluetooth Places by roughly following the following pair intructions but is not recommended.
- Click on the 'Options' tab and make sure 'Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area' is checked. This places the icon in the taskbar by the clock.
- Under the 'Devices' tab click 'Add' (make sure the eBeam is not already listed, if it is remove it first to ensure the new settings are used).
- Check 'My Device is set up and ready to be found' and click next.
- Your PC will find the eBeam, select and click next.
- Select 'Let me choose my own passkey" and type 1234 in the box.
- Wizard will connect, configure passkey and confirm installation.
- If successfully installed you will see an assigned Outgoing and Incoming COM port.
- Take note of the Outgoing COM port (can be port 4 - 8) and click Finish.
- Now start eBeam Interact, the software should automatically connect with the eBeam.
- If the Bluetooth connection was successful restart your PC and eBeam (unplug from wall and plug back in) and attempt to reconnect just to verify everything is working.
- If the eBeam does not reconnect please do the following:
- Close eBeam Interact if still open.
- Plug the eBeam into your PC with the USB cable and start eBeam Interact.
- Right-click in the middle of the nav wheel or on the task bar icon and select 'options'.
- Select 'System Preferences'.
- Change the connection from 'Autodetect' to 'Specific port' - from the pull-down select the Outgoing COM port noted earlier.
- Click 'OK' and exit eBeam Interact.
- Plug the eBeam back into the wall and start eBeam Interact.
- You should now have a reliable connection via Bluetooth.
- Now restart eBeam Interact or start eBeam Capture and calibrate to get started.
Your eBeam is now setup! We highly recommend training to realize the full potential of your eBeam. Please contact us to schedule an on-site or online training session. (use contact form)
